ひっかかる【引っ掛かる】

1 〔止められる〕 catch; be caught 《in…, by…》; hitch 《on a nail》; get fast 《in…》; 〔下がる〕 hang; (釣り針などに) be hooked; snag; be snagged 《by…》; 〔引きずられる〕 drag; be dragged 《by…》.

●網に引っかかる be caught in a net

・棒の先に引っかかる get caught on the end of a stick.

●喉に魚の小骨が引っかかった. I got a little fishbone stuck in my throat.

・何かが引っかかってプリンターが動かない. The printer won't work―something is stuck.

・コートの袖(_そで)が釘に引っかかった. My coatsleeve got caught on a nail.

・凧(_たこ)が木[電線]に引っかかった. The kite got caught in a tree [on an electric wire].

・このペンは引っかかってよく書けない. This pen keeps catching; it doesn't write smoothly.

・風で飛んだタオルがあんなところに引っかかっている. Look at where the towel got caught after the wind took it.

2 〔足止めされる〕 be stopped; be held up; get stuck; (立ち寄って) (be persuaded to) stop by [in]; 〔捕まる〕 be caught; 〔チェックされる〕 be checked [inspected]; attract the notice of 《inspectors》.

●検問に引っかかる be stopped for inspection

・税関で引っかかる be caught at Customs

・帰り道で飲み屋[バーゲンセール]に引っかかる stop in [find oneself held up] at a watering hole [bargain sale] on the way back

・捜査の網に引っかかる be caught in the investigative net

・健康診断で引っかかる have a problem turn up in the results of one's health check-up.

●どこで引っかかっているんでしょうか, 主人はまだ帰りません. I can't imagine where he could've gotten held up, but my husband isn't home yet.

・(試験の) 1 問目で引っかかって時間をだいぶ取られた. I got stuck on the first exam question and lost a lot of time.

●誘導尋問に引っかかる be trapped by the (attorney's) leading questions

・トリックに引っかかる be taken in by a trick

・悪い奴に引っかかる get entangled with [get into the clutches of] a bad man.

●こんな悪巧みには引っかからないぞ. I'm not going to fall for that sort of trick.

・まんまと(わなに)引っかかった. He fell right into the trap. | He fell for it, hook, line and sinker.

4 〔釈然としない〕 trouble [weigh upon] one's mind.

●彼女の言動はどうも引っかかる. Something is bothering me about the way she's behaving.

・この一点が私には引っかかってまだ承諾できない. I haven't said yes because this one point sticks in my craw.

・頭の片隅に引っかかるものがあった. Something at the back of my mind was bothering me.
